On the harsh realities of growing up

Global Game Jam 2019 was my second time participating in Global Game Jam (the first was for Psycho Escape). I had just as much fun this time as I did the first time. The theme for 2019 was "What home means to you". My gut reaction to that theme was the idea of home not being the way you remember it when you were a kid.

When I was a kid, there was a tree swing in an alleyway near my house. Lots of kids from my school and neighborhood used to go there to hang out. It was a great little gathering spot. It'll always hold a warm spot in my memories. After I graduated from college, I went back there to check it out. When I did, I found that there was nothing left but a stump. That was a painful experience. As masochistic as it might sound, for GGJ 2019, I wanted to capture that painful experience in a game. The result is Go Back. It's my favorite game jam project so far, and one of my favorite games I've ever made.
